China's humanoid robot lead is misleading. Here's why

China is totally dominating the humanoid robot shipment race, sure.

In the first half of 2026, global humanoid robot shipments reached roughly 19,100 units, up 272% year over year. Chinese companies accounted for more than 97% of those shipments, while AgiBot and Unitree alone controlled about 75% of the global market.

Those numbers look overwhelming. But do they actually tell us who is winning humanoid robotics?

No.

In this episode of Humanoid Daily, I break down the latest shipment data, why China has built such a commanding early lead, and why I think the leaderboard matters less than it appears.

The real test isn’t how many robots companies can ship today. It’s whether those machines can perform significant, economically valuable work reliably, autonomously and at massive scale.
